Four more basketball games tonight to kick off the weekend. On the college level, Purdue travels to Madison to take on the Badgers who are always good at home. Neither of these teams looks like it has the ability to make a deep run in March, but both teams have some solid players. Ethan Happ on Wisconsin is a machine in the post, while CJ Edwards on Purdue is a bona fide playmaker in the backcourt. I don’t think the Badgers lose a Big 10 game in the Kohl Center to a 9-6 Purdue team, so I’m taking Badgers -3.
Onto the NBA now, starting with an intriguing matchup in the nation’s capital. This line opened at Bucks -6, but the news that Giannis isn’t playing shifted it down 5 points. Even without their best player, I think the Bucks are the superior team. Also, John Wall isn’t suiting up for the Wizards, so they’ll have to lean heavily on Bradley Beal. I think it was a bit of an overreaction that this game basically shifted to a pick ’em with Giannis’ injury news, making Bucks -1 the logical pick for me.
The Hornets continue a West Coast trip going to Portland tonight in the late window. There’s not too much to this pick. Kemba is a great player, but the Trail Blazers are just the better team. They’ve been playing great as of late, especially at home. Predicting more of the same tonight and I see them winning by at least 7 to cover.
Another game in the late window sees the Lakers travel to play the Jazz. LeBron is still out, and will be for a couple more games. I think this is the reason the line is so inflated, because the Lakers actually have a better record than Utah. I think Utah will win the game, but I don’t see them doing so by double digits. It’s always a little nerve-racking taking a big underdog on the road, but there’s no way I’d take that Jazz line, so pretty much this comes down to which do I feel less-worse about. Lakers +8.5 fits that bill. Go win some money.
